The Keegan’s Wedding at SAITs Historic Heritage Hall

The Keegan’s Big Day at SAIT’s Historic Heritage Hall

Mirrah Getting Ready

For Jeff and Mirrah’s wedding, we started the day in the Wedding Suite up on the 22nd floor of the Begin Tower at SAIT. Up in the suite, we met the women, who were getting ready for the day. Mirrah’s makeup was done by her friend and one of her maid’s of honour, Erin, while Alice from Hair Booth worked on her hair. We started with photos of Mirrah’s beautiful dress from The Bridal Centre, and Erin braved the heights and climbed up to the edge of the bed to hold the dress up in the window. Then, into the dress Mirrah went, with the help of her mom. We did a bunch of shots of her in the gown, photographed her getting into her silver shoes and jewelry, and took some close-ups of the red rose bouquets. While we shot the details, the sandwiches came out and everyone had a bite to eat. Mirrah tucked a towel into the front of her dress to save it from any spills.

The Ceremony at the Irene Lewis Atrium

We left the girls to their lunch and headed to Heritage Hall, the stunning brick focal point and National Historic Site at SAIT. The building was completed in 1922, and the gothic architecture and historic features make the place a stunning venue. There, we met Jeff and his party as they were adjusting their ties and putting on the final touches for the big moment. Jeff and his dad helped each other with their boutonnieres as they waited in the wings for the bride.

The Irene Lewis Atrium, where the ceremony would be held, is a beautiful big space, with a three-tier high ceiling and red brick walls. Big white drapes concealed the wedding party from the guests as they waited for the ceremony to begin. Jeff waited on one side, and when Mirrah arrived, she remained on the other. All that separated them was a single white curtain. Jeff’s heart was pounding – the proximity of his bride-to-be was overwhelming, and intensified the anticipation!
The ceremony began, led by Bruce Halliday, and the wedding party led the way into the hall down an elegant red carpet runner. The service was simple and sweet. Jeff and Mirrah exchanged vows, both traditional and personal. Their vows mirrored each other, which was a beautiful testament to their relationship. Out came the rings, they shared their first kiss, and then they were officially pronounced husband and wife!

After the ceremony, the reception area was set up for cocktail hour, so as the guests mingled we took the opportunity to take family photos.

The Creative Formals at SAIT’s Heritage Hall

Once we had completed family shots, we moved out on the campus for formals with the bride, groom, and wedding party. We staggered them on the stairs in front of Heritage Hall, and they made the joke that they looked like the cover of a Christian Rock album.

Out in front of Heritage Hall, a time capsule lies underneath a silver ball, so we used the highly reflective surface of the ball in the photos. Mirrah’s sister and maid of honour Tessa sat on top, while the girls crowded around for a photo. Meanwhile, we photographed the guys out against the Calgary skyline. Before we separated from the group, we grabbed a few final shots of the entire party against the brick of Heritage Hall.
With Mirrah and Jeff, we moved in and out of the trees on campus, and then found a brick archway for a few more intimate shots. Jeff pulled up a pant leg, and showed a flattered Mirrah his socks, which read “My Heart Belongs to Mirrah.”

The Keegan Reception at SAIT’s Macdonald Hall

We headed back to the reception for the bride and groom’s entrance, and then Mirrah and Jeff kicked things off with a speech. They thanked the guests and expressed how much they appreciated everyone being there. Then we took a big group photo of all the guests.

Jill Glasgow and the team at SAIT were fantastic and had a flawless system in place to run the day. Everything was preset before the group arrived, the decor looked fantastic, and the day ran smoothly.

While the guests were mingling, we took the opportunity to photograph the wedding rings, incorporating their cake from Crave Cupcakes and their brilliant red roses. Once we finished photographing the details, we headed out, leaving the guests and the newlyweds to party the night away. Brian Rancoor with Nexus Entertainment kicked things off, and the rest is history.

We had a wonderful day with Jeff and Mirrah, and we hope they love their images as much as we loved taking them!
