The Burghardt’s Wedding at Calgary’s Springbank Links Golf Course

A Relaxed and Snowy Celebration

We met up with Taryn and Adam at the Springbank Links Golf Course in Calgary. The Springbank Links is a friendly and welcoming place. The GM Kevin, along with Julie and Cam, Taryn and Adam’s planner, worked to make the couple a priority. The staff was amazing and helpful all day long.

We met the bride and groom downstairs in the golf club locker rooms. At first, the guys were hanging out in the games room playing foosball, but they moved into the men’s locker room to avoid seeing the bride ahead of time. Once we said hello to everyone we headed upstairs to get things set up for the ceremony.

Their Ceremony in the Gallery Room at Springbank Links Golf Course

Under the beautiful vaulted pine ceiling of the Gallery Room, Taryn and Adam’s wedding ceremony began. Officiant Tamara Jones, who always puts on a wonderful ceremony, led the service. The music began. Taryn walked down the aisle in a Maggie Sottero mermaid gown from The Bridal Center. Adam’s sister read from Corinthians 1:13: Love is patient and kind; it protects, trusts, hopes, and always perseveres. It was a lovely ceremony and ended with the document signing in front of the floor to ceiling windows.

The Family Photos at Springbank Links Golf Course

After the ceremony, the newlyweds took a break while the guests cleared out of the Gallery. Once it was empty, we headed back inside for family photos. The wooden arbor that they had used for an archway made a beautiful backdrop for the family shots. It all ran smoothly, and we ended the family shoot in front of the giant windows.

The Creative Formals at the Springbank Links Golf Course

Taryn loves winter, and she wanted a nice snowy wedding day. Calgary has had a mild winter, so it didn’t seem likely that we would get any snow. But, luck was on Taryn’s side, because during their ceremony she got her wish. The heavens opened up and snow began to float down to earth. We stayed inside for the family photos, but there was no way we weren’t getting outside for the creative formals.

The whole wedding party was game for a shoot in the snow, so out we went. We began with a shot of the couple looking out over the back side of the golf course itself. Then, on the front balcony and clubhouse deck, we shot the wedding party on the epic pine and glass backdrop. Afterward, we released the wedding party, but the best man graciously drove the newlyweds around for their photos. We came upon a private dock on the Bow River down from the golf course and started off with a few pictures there. Then we drove out to a wide-open field, the remnants of long grass creating mounds all over the ground between the snow. The field was the perfect setting. The falling snow created an ethereal gradient backdrop over the valley behind. We returned to a golf cart path we found along the way and stood Taryn and Adam in amongst the bare birch trees and snowflakes. The photographs looked amazing in the soft romantic light. After having sufficiently frozen everyone, it was time to head back for the reception!

The Burghardt Reception in the Springbank Links Reception Room

We returned to find everyone excited for the reception. The whole day was very chill, and instead of a grand entrance, Taryn and Adam floated in and mingled around with their guests. The evening was well paced, easygoing, and relaxed. The emcee Rich was fantastic and did an amazing job making the evening flow smoothly.

The buffet dinner began. It featured roasted potatoes, roast beef, chicken, salads, and a big fruit platter. A large candy table functioned as favors. It was overflowing with chocolate caramels, sour soothers, skittles, gummy bears, and more! People enjoyed the candy bar since they could fill up their bags with whatever they pleased. Instead of a cake, Adam and his mom flexed their baking skills and made delicious vanilla and chocolate cupcakes.

Speeches followed dinner. The maid of honor gave a fun and sarcastic speech at the expense of Taryn and Adam. The jokes were hilarious and on point, but she wrapped up with a touching sentiment, letting them know how important they are to her. The bride and groom closed the speeches with their thank yous to the guests, venue, and vendors. Neither Taryn nor Adam are very comfortable public speaking, but even so, they delivered a wonderful speech. After a slideshow, it was time to get up and hit the dance floor. They began with their first dance, followed by the mother-son/father-daughter dance. Then, everyone else got up and danced. Taryn and Adam didn’t hire a DJ, instead opting to create their own playlists on a laptop and loudspeaker. The playlist was a fun mix of everything from Beyoncé to the Backstreet Boys and beyond. It was time for us to head home, but we are certain that they all stayed up to party the night away.

We had a wonderful time with Taryn and Adam, and land their family!
